Canadian study permit approval rates for international students climbed 10 percentage points year-over-year in early 2026. 🇨🇦 The latest data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reveals a shifting landscape. While overall application volumes have softened, the likelihood of a student securing their visa has actually improved. To help your team understand the trends affecting enrollment and recruitment strategies, we analyzed the early 2026 data. Key findings include: 🔷 IRCC approved about 14,000 new post-secondary study permits in the first four months of 2026, 22% fewer than they did over the same period in 2025. 🔷 Visa approval rates rose across every program level, led by university-level postgraduate programs at 49% and undergraduate programs at 44% 🔷 Study permit extensions continue to receive the majority of approvals, accounting for 77% of the total volume For teams advising future students the improving approval rate should inspire more confidence compared to a year ago. Understanding these shifts helps institutions and counsellors better align applicant profiles with program demand, while setting students up for visa success. Our full analysis is linked in the first comment.👇

Four IRCC updates that sharpen how you plan enrolment or advise students. Over the past few weeks, IRCC refined the guidance it publishes for study permits, and the details are worth a close read. Most are clarifications rather than new rules, but together they set clearer expectations around enrolment, academic progress, moving between schools, and time away from studies. For anyone planning enrolment or advising students, now is a good time to make sure your reporting and advice reflect the current guidance. The official IRCC guidance is linked in the comments.

Navigating the recent updates to the US student visa process is essential for international students who are starting their programs this fall. 🇺🇸 Starting September 15, F-1 visas will transition from a flexible “duration of status” to a fixed time period tied directly to the length of each student's study program. Alongside new requirements for requesting extensions and switching majors, these updates make proactive academic planning essential. Whether you're part of an institution preparing for the fall intake or a study abroad advisor guiding future learners, understanding these new regulations is vital. Check out our blog on: ➡️ How the new durations for US student visas are being set ➡️ What happens if a student needs to request a visa extension ➡️ Which rules are changing related to maintaining a valid student visa https://bit.ly/45rpL3j

How has Brazilian international student demand responded to policy shifts in the big four Anglophone destinations? 🇧🇷 While each big four Anglophone study destination has implemented or updated policies, since 2024, that have affected international student demand, Brazilian students are sending clear positive signals about their intent to study abroad. Our latest article explores: ➡️ How Brazilian applicants to Canada had a 90% student visa approval rate in early 2026 ➡️ Why 75% of Australian student visas granted to Brazilian applicants in 2025 were for English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) programs ➡️ How Brazilian demand in the UK and US pulled back at less than half the pace of the broader applicant pool Explore the detailed findings in the second of our two-part series on Brazilian international student mobility. https://bit.ly/4frI259

Today we launched the ApplyBoard Trust Center, an open look at how we protect the institutions we work with. 🏫👇 International recruitment has moved from rewarding volume to rewarding quality. We think the platforms that institutions rely on should be judged the same way. So we are not asking institutions to take our compliance on faith. We are showing them. ApplyBoard Trust Center shares... 🚫 Every application is screened, and about half do not pass and never reach an admissions team 📄 82% of the vetted files we forward are accepted ⛔️ Around a quarter of recruiters are rejected at vetting, and bad actors are removed and named on a public list 🛂 It also includes our analysis of 1,370 study permit refusal letters, with the biggest reasons students get refused and the fix for each We would rather show our work than ask you to just trust us.
