Job description

About This Job

Xanadu’s mission is to build quantum computers that are useful and available to people everywhere.

At Xanadu, we are learners, innovators, researchers, collaborators and problem solvers. We are creating something that has never been built before. What we are doing is extremely hard, the classic moon shot. Few people in their life will be able to be a part of something like this, where if we are successful, the technologies we develop will solve some of the world’s most challenging problems, and literally change the world. And that is something to be excited about!

Your role and responsibilities:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Senior Accountant to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this role is responsible for inventory accounting, lifecycle management of long-term assets, and core accounting operations that support our research and development initiatives.

In this role, you will combine strong technical accounting expertise with a focus on operational excellence, ensuring that revenue, inventory, and capital investments are accurately recorded, tracked, and depreciated. You will also analyze trends, support forecasting activities, and contribute to strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and highly collaborative, with the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while continuously improving processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory & Materials Accounting

Lead end-to-end accounting for inventory and materials, including capitalization, usage tracking, and valuation in accordance with US GAAP.

Fixed Asset Accounting

Manage the full lifecycle of fixed assets, including capitalization of construction- in-progress (CIP), depreciation, disposals, and impairment analysis

Asset Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration

Partner with R&D, Purchasing, and Facilities teams to track equipment installations and ensure accurate classification and recording of assets

Financial Close & Reporting

Own accounting operations for assigned areas during the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes

Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and roll-forward schedules

Audit & Compliance

Act as the primary liaison for external auditors on inventory, fixed assets, and revenue/grant-related matters

Ensure compliance with US GAAP and internal SOX control requirements

Revenue & Grant Accounting

Lead and optimize revenue recognition and grant accounting processes in accordance with US GAAP

Manage all related accounting activities during month-end and quarter-end close cycles

Core Accounting & Analysis

Prepare detailed journal entries and perform balance sheet reconciliations

Conduct financial variance analysis across revenue, inventory, and capital investment portfolios

Maintain audit-ready documentation and support financial statement accuracy

Government Funding & Reporting

Act as the finance lead for government funding programs (e.g., SR&ED, SIF, FedDev)

Gather and compile technical and financial documentation to support funding claims and reporting requirements

CAPEX Planning & Analysis

Partner with department leaders to develop and manage the annual CAPEX budget

Perform monthly variance analysis (actual vs. budget) to support cash flow management and investment decisions

Expense & Invoice Oversight

Oversee invoice processing and coding for capital projects

Ensure accurate classification between OPEX and CAPEX

Maintain effective accounts payable workflows for major vendors and contractors

Process Improvement

Identify and implement process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and scalability

Ad Hoc Projects

Support the Finance Manager on additional accounting initiatives, process enhancements, and cross-functional projects as required

Basic qualifications and experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

CPA designation or actively working toward completion
